Overview

Prism Marine Electric across the United States

From our shop at 201 SW 18th Ave in Fort Lauderdale we support ship's electrical work nationwide. Roughly 90% of what we do is scheduled maintenance and class survey work, and that program travels with the vessel — if the boat moves north for the season or hauls out in another state, the same technicians who know her systems come with it.

Our scope is the ship's electrical system as a whole: power generation, protection and distribution, shore power, battery banks, control systems and automation, alarm and fire alarm systems, navigation and LED lighting, grounding and bonding, and galley, laundry and appliance circuits. We do not do bridge navigation electronics or audio/video work — this is electrical, from the generator to the final circuit.

The process is identical wherever the vessel sits. We scope the work by phone, arrive with the documentation and test gear the job requires, diagnose by measurement, repair to marine standard and leave behind labeling and written results your captain, surveyor or underwriter can use.

Where the work is based

Our shop at 201 SW 18th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312 carries commonly needed marine electrical stock — breakers, tinned cable, lugs, relays, sensors and lighting — so traveling technicians arrive with parts rather than a shopping list. 30+ years of combined marine electrical experience, licensed and insured, available 24/7 emergency and scheduled service.

Traveling marine electricians

We fly to the vessel with test equipment, prints and commonly needed parts, so a diagnosis on day one usually turns into a repair on day one — not a second trip.

The same electricians who maintain the boat in Fort Lauderdale do the work out of state. Tinned copper, correctly rated terminations, proper support and clear labeling on every circuit we touch.

Survey-fluent

We prepare vessels for periodical class surveys and buyer/seller surveys, attend with the surveyor and close out electrical findings with documentation that gets accepted.

Honest scoping and pricing

Travel work is quoted in advance with transit, lodging and on-board hours itemized separately. Free estimates, and a straight answer on what can wait and what can't.

Frequently asked questions

United States marine electrical FAQ

Will you travel to a yacht outside Florida?

Yes. For vessels we maintain — and for larger projects and survey work generally — we travel to any U.S. marine hub for troubleshooting, refit electrical work, survey preparation, attendance and repairs.

How is travel work quoted?

In advance, with transit, lodging and on-board hours itemized separately from parts. You see the full picture before anyone books a flight, and there are no surprise line items on the invoice.

Can you attend a class survey out of state?

Yes. We prepare the vessel ahead of an annual, 5, 10, 15 or 20-year-plus periodical survey, attend on board with the surveyor to answer for the electrical systems, and close out findings afterward with documentation.

Do you work in shipyards and refit facilities?

Yes — we're credentialed for yard work and used to coordinating with project managers, other trades and yard safety requirements during a haul-out or refit period.

Do you handle navigation electronics or audio/video on the road?

No. Prism Marine Electric is strictly a marine electrical company: ship's electrical systems, power, wiring, controls, alarms, lighting and appliances. Radar, chartplotters, autopilots, TVs and entertainment systems are a different trade.
